Give your children a beautiful smile
At Smile Zone Dental we offer comprehensive children’s dentistry. All children need to maintain regular screenings to ensure that their teeth are developing and aligning properly.
Also, primary teeth are the most prone to cavities as the tooth is smaller and has a thinner layer of enamel than does the secondary or adult teeth. That is why we recommend maintaining a regular dental appointment for your child every six months.
From infancy to adulthood.
We will be there for your child every step of the way from their first tooth to their wisdom teeth.
Ages 0 to 4
Typically, it is not necessary to bring your infant to a dentist. At about six months they will begin cutting their first incisors. This is typically a painful process for your infant . You can combat this through the use of teething rings alongside children’s Tylenol or Ibuprofen to manage the pain. You will typically want to make their first dentist appointment between ages three and four. By this age, they should have most of their primary teeth.
Additionally, if your child is over the age of two or older and continues to suck on their thumb or requires excessive binky use, we can recommend ways to help them break that habit as it can harm the health and development of their teeth.
Ages 4 to 12
During this time your child will have a mix of primary and secondary teeth. We must identify that they are developing and aligning correctly. The development of secondary teeth can put pressure on the other primary teeth and cause them to misalign. This is where crooked teeth, underbites, overbites, and issues with teeth grinding may occur.
Ages 13 to adulthood
At the onset of puberty, your child should have shed the last of their primary teeth. Aside from cavities, the most common things we look for are the alignment of the teeth and the growth of the wisdom teeth. Braces are also the most common thing we help adolescents with during these ages to correct any misalignment.
What is the difference between a dentist and a pediatric dentist?
Pediatrics provide medical support to children and those under the age of 18. A pediatric dentist would only provide dental services to children. However, many dentists provide dental care to children and adults, and Smile Zone dental can provide services for you and your whole family.
